Our Commitment to Justice

Imagine a table

For generations, that table has been set for the same people—the same voices, the same perspectives, the same power. If you weren’t invited, you had to fight for a seat. And even if you got one, you were told to sit quietly, take up as little space as possible, and be grateful.

Now, let’s imagine something different. A table where everyone has a comfortable seat—not as a favor reluctantly doled out, but because you belong, and others are eager to see and hear from you. At this table you have the same access to tools and opportunities as everyone else. A space where you’re not given scraps, but you’re part of shaping the meal.

So when we say that we’re committed to creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture—that’s the work we’re talking about. This work is about fairness, not favoritism. When we level the playing field fairness, dignity, and respect are enjoyed by all of us.

our Role in This Work

At Mission Minded, we know that stories shape the world. The ones we tell—and the ones we help our clients tell—either reinforce the status quo or challenge it. Stories can invite more people in or leave them out.

And so every day, we strive to hold each other accountable, and to continuously learn to do better.

This isn’t just about who we are internally. It shapes every project we touch. When we understand bias, we catch it in your messaging before it goes out. When we practice inclusive storytelling, we help you connect with communities who’ve been talked at, not with. Our commitment to justice makes us sharper, more empathetic, and ultimately better partners for organizations trying to change the world.

Our Commitment to Justice into Practice

We check for bias

We’ve embedded inclusive practices into how we write, design, and make recommendations—so we’re not just checking for bias at the end, we’re building equity into the process from the start. That means asking hard questions about the images we choose, the language we recommend, and whose voices are centered in the stories we help tell.

We tell better stories

We don’t do diversity for show. We don’t just add “diverse” stock photos onto campaigns. We help clients move beyond savior-based messaging (which makes communities look helpless) to stories of strength, leadership, and power.

We are always learning

Learning is woven into how we work every day. We have ongoing conversations across our team, including unpacking words and phrases that have racist, ableist, or sexist roots, sharing resources, and when people feel comfortable, sharing personal and vulnerable stories.

We celebrate victories together and hold each other up during the low points. And we’re intentional about this: too often the burden of this work falls on the communities most affected by injustice. Here, that labor is shared—because it belongs to all of us.

We hold ourselves accountable

This work is hard and we don’t always get it right. But when we falter—and sometimes we do—we don’t stay down. That looks like real things: how we run meetings so every voice gets space before the loudest one takes over, making room for both the out-loud thinkers and the ones who need quiet to give their best thinking, and being comfortable enough with each other to name it when something comes from a place of privilege. Complacency is the death of this work, and the communities we serve deserve better than that. So we keep showing up.

We share what we learn

We believe mission-driven organizations should have everything they need to succeed. So when we learn something about asset–based framing, writing donor personas that don’t tokenize communities, or equity in fundraising communications, we share it. We weave it into our work with clients and publish it freely—so you can explore our thinking right on this page.

We're listening

One of our core values is “Reach out and Invite in”—which means this work is never finished and we never stop listening. If you have thoughts on how we can deepen our commitment, we want to hear them. Let us know at amplify@missionminded.com.

let’s build inclusivity together

Our commitment to justice isn’t about guilt or calling people out. It’s about inviting  everyone in. Because at the end of the day, we all want fairness. We all want to be seen, valued, and respected.

Donor Personas Divide Us. Let’s Change That.
