At Mission Minded, we’ve worked with hundreds of nonprofits helping them uncover the big bold idea that will attract more people to their work. So, chances are, whatever brand challenges our clients are facing, we’ve got some expertise to meaningfully guide them.

We’re not the only experts. Our clients are experts, too. They know their organization inside and out—where it’s been, where it’s going, and how it’s going to happen. And often, as part of that plan, they need someone with a different knowledge set to consult on their organization’s brand, or reputation.

Recently, during our weekly team meeting, we were all asked to be a different kind of consultant and to consider what we would do if we were hired to be consultants to our younger selves. Put another way, “What would you tell your past self?”

We’re sharing some of our team’s responses below. You’ll notice some similar themes. And maybe you’ll see some advice you’ll want to heed for yourself!

“Don’t take things too seriously, it will all work out.”
“Regardless of how corny it sounds, or how hard it might be, figure out how to love yourself and everything else will fall into place.”
“Don’t bleach your hair!”
“Don’t be guided by fear in your decision making.”
“If you know, don’t wait.”
“Treat yourself the way you treat your best friend.”
“There’s no age where you’re magically going to have it all figured out and pulled together.”
“Don’t take AP US History!” (hidden meaning: don’t cave to peer pressure. Trust your gut.)
“Don’t wait for everything to be perfect.”
“Leave your eyebrows alone!”
“It’s okay to not have everything figured out.”

Now it’s your turn. Be a consultant to your younger self. What would you say?
